As the weather grows cooler its time to start thinking about a pre-winter ‘spring clean’ of your home electrical needs, here are 5 things you can check
- Have your air conditioner filters cleaned.
We all know that filters are there to collect nasties in the air, imagine what will be circulating through your system if you leave the summer build up and (for reverse cycle) add heat. You can quickly be circulating harmful germs throughout your home. - Change worn extension cords.
Extension cords aren’t meant for long-term use, which may result in electrical fires. Walk around your home and inspect all extension cords for wear and tear, including ground prongs coming loose and cracked insulation. If you see signs of damage, replace the cord immediately. - Clean your cooktop exhaust filter
This can be as easy a popping it into the dishwasher. A dirty filter can cause undue stress on your appliances and cause them to work less efficiantly. Save yourself time and money and get your hood filters sparkly before winter starts. - Reverse your ceiling fan direction
Most ceiling fans have a switch that allows you to reverse the direction, jump up and flick the switch. In the winter, reverse the motor and operate the ceiling fan at low speed in the clockwise direction. This produces a gentle updraft, which forces warm air near the ceiling down into the occupied space. - Schedule an Inspection.
If you are not sure or looking for peace of mind. Call us to book in for an inspection and be sure that you ticking every box.
It is also important to remember as winter is just around the corner wildlife may take shealter or seek warmth in your roof with potential for wires to be disturbed (or chewed through) insulation to be moved around etc. So if you notice any strange happenings as the cooler months settle in, call Brisbane Electrical for an inspection to ensure you home is safe and secure.
