Are you planning to travel abroad? It pays to check if you need a power plug adapter or voltage converter for the power sockets in the country you are visiting. If you have never travelled before it may come as a surprise when you go to plug in your phone adaptor just to find that the socket doesn’t fit! But there is more to travelling than just having the right plug. When it comes to powering your device the Australian electrical system and those of other countries are not the same.
So what’s the difference?
This may not seem like it would make a difference, plugging your phone into the wrong voltage can cause it (and anything else you plug in) to self-destruct, so it pays to know which plug is best for the country you are travelling to.
So you know which plug will fit, do you know the difference between converters and adapters?
Adapters won’t change the voltage or current, they only change the shape of the plug (so while you need one to get electricity out of the wall and into your appliance) you will need a converter to reduce the current flow of volts down to 110 volts so they can be used safely. If you are charging something big, you will need a bigger converter – and don’t forget to check what current is needed before you plug it in!
